Frequently Asked Questions about Therapy and Clinical Psychology

Learn more about my therapy and clinical psychology services

I offer adults in the Brunswick East and Moonee Ponds areas clinical psychology services to help address mental health issues and other difficulties in life.

My standard fees are as follows:

The fee for a standard 50 minute session is $275. With the medicare rebate of $149.05 the out-of-pocket cost is $125.95.

The first session, which is usually a longer 1 hour and 50 minute session, is $400 and the out-of-pocket cost is $250.05.

Once all of the rebates have been used up I typically reduce my fee.

The fee may vary depending on the source of funding you use (for example, TAC, NDIS, Worksafe or OpenArms) and your situation.

We can discuss more about fees in your initial call.

If you need to cancel your psychology appointment, I urge you to do it at least 48 hours ahead of your appointment. If you cancel within 24 hours, I will charge a cancellation fee equal to the full session fee. Please note that Medicare and other funding bodies do not cover the cancellation fee.

Also, note that this cancellation policy and minimum of 24 hour notice is based on when I receive the notification that you need to cancel or reschedule, and not when you send the notification.

While I don’t offer couples therapy currently, I can see you individually to help with relationship issues and other mental health issues that could be affecting the relationship.

Yes, most people I see get a rebate via a mental health care plan. These rebates can give you access to $149.05 for up to 10 sessions per year with a clinical psychologist. See your GP to completed a mental health care plan. In addition, if you are eligible, you may also be able to get a rebate via a Chronic Condition Management Plan (via your GP), an Eating Disorder Management Plan (via your GP), TAC, WorkSafe, OpenArms, NDIS or Victims of Crime.

Yes, I do offer psychology and therapy services to people with OpenArms, NDIS, TAC and Worksafe funding.

Everything we discuss during the appointment is confidential between you and me. However, in the following circumstances I may be obligated to disclose information to other people:

  • If I am subpoenaed by a court.
  • If I learn of harm or risk of harm to a child or I learn of sexual abuse committed against a child (unless you are reporting historical sexual abuse that you have suffered in which I have no obligation to disclose information)
  • If I have serious concerns about your safety or the safety of other people.
  • If you report information that another health practitioner you are seeing needs to know in order to provide care to you.
  • If you are using a funding source (Medicare, Worksafe, TAC or OpenArms) that requires me to submit a report to them in order for you to access the funding.
  • In addition, all psychologists in Australia are required to engage in ongoing training and supervision (supervision is a 1 on 1 consultation with another psychologist or mental health professional for the purpose of reviewing and improving therapy/clinical psychology skills). As part of the process of supervision  work with clients may be discussed.

I am not a crisis service and I can typically only offer very limited support between appointments. If you are experiencing an emergency or crisis, I encourage you to engage with crisis service (for example, calling 000, attending an ED or calling Triage). I have more information on emergency/crisis support in the ‘If it is an emergency’ section of my page on Depression.
